Make your plans now to compete for the 3rd annual US-IRC Gulf Stream Series Trophies. The 2008 Notice of Series is available now online at www.us-irc.org/2008_gulf_stream_series.cfm. Action begins with the 2008 Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and Acura Key West Race Week in January. The series concludes with the Storm Trysail Club's US-IRC East Coast Championship sailed the first weekend of November in Annapolis.
The 2007 Gulf Stream Series Trophy went to Michael Brennan's RP 45 Sjambok from Potomac MD. Decision the Transpac 52 owned by Stephen Murray of New Orleans, LA was second in the series. Third place went to Kalevala II, a Grand Soleil 37 owned by Tapio Saavalainen of Washington, DC
The 2008 series will be similar to the 2007, but there are a few significant differences:
The races and regattas are divided into two groups instead of three. To qualify for the series a boat must race in two Group 1 events and five Group 2 events for a total of seven qualifying events. Group 1 races are single race 'distance' events. Group 2 is for multi-race regattas.
